Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has revealed that an injury sustained in training hampered her performance after she missed out on a third consecutive Commonwealth Games women’s 100m hurdles title at the Glasgow 2026 Games.
The world record holder finished third in Thursday night’s final, crossing the line in 12.60 seconds to claim the bronze medal.
Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton clinched the gold medal in a time of 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons secured silver after finishing in 12.41 seconds.
Amusan had entered the competition as the defending champion, having won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and successfully retained her title in Birmingham in 2022.
Speaking after the race, the Nigerian sprint hurdler disclosed that a fall during training left her nursing a knee injury ahead of the competition.
“I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I’ve been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet. But I’m just thankful I was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again,” Amusan said.
Despite falling short of defending her title, the 29-year-old extended her record of podium finishes at the Commonwealth Games, earning her third consecutive medal in the women’s 100m hurdles.
