The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has announced the death of his immediate elder brother, Prince Adetunji Ogunwusi, describing him as a respected entrepreneur, humanitarian and a pillar of the Ogunwusi family.
The monarch disclosed the passing in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Sodiq Lawal.
According to the statement, Prince Adetunji’s death has left a significant void in the Ogunwusi family, the Ojaja Royal Dynasty and the entire Ile-Ife Kingdom.
Born on December 8, 1967, Prince Adetunji was a member of the Ojaja lineage of the Giesi Ruling House in Ile-Ife. He served as the Group Chairman of Primewaterview Holdings and was widely recognised for his contributions to business and philanthropy.
Paying tribute to his late brother, the Ooni described him as a dependable confidant whose life was defined by humility, integrity and compassion.
“Today, the entire royal family mourns not only a brother and son but also a trusted confidant, a dependable pillar of our family and a man whose life reflected honour, dignity and uncommon compassion,” the monarch said.
He praised the late prince’s entrepreneurial achievements, noting that he built a reputation for excellence, innovation and visionary leadership while remaining committed to humanitarian causes.
The Ooni also recalled Prince Adetunji’s quiet acts of generosity, saying he touched countless lives through selfless service, wise counsel and unwavering dedication to family values.
He urged members of the Ogunwusi family, the people of Ile-Ife and well-wishers to take comfort in the legacy of service and impact left behind by the deceased.
“Though his earthly journey has come to an end, his footprints on the sands of time can never be erased. The Ogunwusis are comforted by the fact that Prince Adetunji lived a fulfilled life dedicated to God, family, enterprise and humanity,” the monarch said.
The Ooni prayed for the peaceful repose of his brother’s soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to his immediate family, friends, business associates and all those mourning his passing.
