President Bola Tinubu will on Wednesday launch an online registration portal for all civil registrations in Nigeria, such as birth, death, marriage, stillbirth, adoption, divorce, migration and more.
This was announced by the National Population Commission (NPC) Chairman, Nasir Kwarra, at a pre-launch briefing on Monday, November 6, 2023, in Abuja.
According to Kwarra, the online portal, which is a project of the NPC, aims to provide digital certificates for all civil registrations.
He added that it would serve as a verification platform for registered organizations and a central management system that depicts and analyses collated civil registrations into vital statistics for proper decision-making.
He said that the online portal is a departure from the paper-based system, which is prone to errors, delays and manipulation.
He added that the online portal will enhance the quality and reliability of civil registration and vital statistics in Nigeria, as well as improve the accessibility and convenience of the citizens.
He commended President Tinubu for his vision and support for the project, which he said will boost the socio-economic development of the country.
He urged all Nigerians to take advantage of the online portal and register their civil events as soon as possible.
He also appealed to all stakeholders, such as state governments, local governments, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, media and the general public, to cooperate and collaborate with the NPC in ensuring the success of the online portal.
The online portal will be accessible through the NPC website, www.npc.gov.ng, from Wednesday, November 8, 2023.
