The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, announced Monday, March 11, 2024, as the commencement of Ramadan, based on the sighting of the moon across the country on Sunday, the 29th day of the Month of Shaban.

He emphasized that the decision was made in accordance with reports received from Muslim leaders nationwide regarding the moon sighting.

“We got the information from Muslim leaders across the country and we accept the sighting of the moon accordingly”, according to video released by the moon sighting committee.

Encouraging the entire Muslim community in Nigeria to observe the Ramadan fast starting from Monday, Abubakar underscored the importance of adhering to Islamic teachings during the holy month. He urged Muslims to utilize this period to pray fervently against the prevailing insecurity in the country and to seek divine guidance for leaders to govern with integrity and righteousness.

However, the Sultan advised Muslims to approach the fasting month with a sense of piety and compassion, urging the affluent to assist the less privileged by providing food and support during Ramadan.

It was gathered from reports, that Saudi Arabia supreme Court confirmed the sighting of crescent on Sunday evening and published through its official Twitter page, “@Haramain”.
