Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has distributed food packs to more than 10,000 households across the district as part of activities marking the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The distribution, which took place across Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe and Somolu divisions, saw thousands of beneficiaries receive food items including bags of rice and garri to support their households during the festive season.
According to the senator, the initiative was designed to provide relief to residents facing economic challenges and rising food costs.
Speaking through his media aide, Enitan Olukotun, during the exercise at the Ikorodu Constituency Office, Abiru said the intervention reflects his commitment to the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of constituents.
“This intervention is borne out of our sincere commitment to continuously identify with the people and provide practical support, particularly at a time many households are facing economic difficulties. Eid-el-Kabir is a season that symbolises sacrifice, compassion, generosity and unity, and it is important that we extend love and support to one another,” he said.
The lawmaker noted that the food distribution programme forms part of a broader social intervention effort aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable residents within the district.
Abiru expressed optimism that the initiative would complement efforts by the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government to address food security concerns and improve economic conditions.
“We all have a shared responsibility to support our people during challenging times. Government at all levels is implementing policies and interventions to improve economic conditions, and as representatives of the people, we must continue to contribute meaningfully through programmes that directly impact lives and strengthen our communities,” he added.
In addition to the food packs, the senator also distributed rams and cows to imams, community leaders, political stakeholders and other groups across Lagos East to support Sallah celebrations.
He congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir and urged them to uphold the values of peace, sacrifice, tolerance, love and mutual support associated with the festival.
The annual intervention is one of several constituency support programmes undertaken by the senator and is aimed at providing assistance to residents across Lagos East during festive periods.
