The Federal Government, through a representative, has argued before the court of appeal that Yoruba Nation agigator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, has been accused of importing firearms.

It also demanded that Sunday Igboho remain in custody until the process of his extradition is completed.

The activist’s wife, Ropo who was arrested along with him, has been released as no charges were found against her.

The Beninise court however ruled that Sunday remain in police custody. Both husband and wife were apprehended at the Cadj hour Airport in Cotonou while they were trying to catch a flight to Germany.

Igboho had been declared wanted by the department of State Services for allegedly stockpiling arms.

The Nigerian government has requested him but the Benin republic authorities refused to grant his release because he wasn’t identified as a Nigerian. The only instrument that could be used to identify him as a Nigerian would be his passport which was not found on him.

Although the Nigerian government has appealed that Igboho be remanded, nothing has been done concerning his extradition because the priority case for the Benin republic is that he committed an offence against their law.
