Former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has broken his silence following his removal from office, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve Nigeria while pledging continued support for the country’s economic reforms.
Edun’s reaction comes hours after Bola Tinubu approved a cabinet reshuffle that saw him removed as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
In the shake-up, the President directed Edun to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated from Minister of State to substantive Minister of Finance.
In his first public comments after the development, Edun reportedly thanked the President for the trust placed in him and highlighted key reforms undertaken during his tenure, while noting that he remains committed to Nigeria’s economic progress.
Presidency sources said the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening coordination and improving delivery of the administration’s economic agenda.
Edun, who served in the role from August 2023 until April 2026, oversaw major fiscal and economic policies during a period marked by reforms and economic challenges.
Although no official reason was publicly detailed in the initial announcement, reports suggest the decision may also be linked to internal restructuring within the finance ministry, as well as the need for renewed momentum in economic management.
With Oyedele now in charge, attention is expected to shift to the next phase of Nigeria’s economic reforms under the new leadership.
The development marks one of the most significant changes in the Federal Executive Council, underscoring the administration’s efforts to recalibrate its economic team amid ongoing fiscal pressures.
