President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the termination of the appointment of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, replacing them with new nominees immediately.

In a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the President directed Edun to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been elevated from Minister of State to assume full responsibility as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

For the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate, while Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending the completion of formalities.

The directive mandates that all handover processes be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Akume explained that the reshuffle is intended to strengthen cohesion within the cabinet, enhance synergy in governance, and improve economic delivery in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, in making the changes.

The President expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring remaining cabinet members that efforts to reinvigorate governance would be sustained.
