Singer Peter Okoye, one half of the now-defunct music duo P-Square, has emotionally recounted a painful chapter of his life in a series of revelation, alleging that he was pressured by members of his family to terminate the pregnancy of his then-girlfriend, Lola Omotayo.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, the singer became emotional as he recalled events that unfolded when he was 27 years old after Lola became pregnant with their first child.
Peter said he chose to announce the pregnancy publicly to prevent rumours and ensure the news came directly from him.
According to him, the announcement was made during the Soundcity Awards shortly after P-Square received an award.
“When I was 27 years old, my girlfriend then, Lola, became pregnant. I didn’t want the news to break from someone else, so I decided to announce it myself,” Peter said.
He explained that after thanking God, the group’s fans and supporters while receiving the award, he dedicated it to “the mother of my unborn child.”
Peter alleged that the announcement triggered an immediate backlash from his twin brother, Paul Okoye, and their elder brother, Jude Okoye.
According to him, the pair walked out of the event, arguing that his decision would damage P-Square’s career.
He further claimed that they insisted Lola should abort the pregnancy and allegedly attempted to discredit her.
“They insisted that Lola should abort the baby. They even forged an email to frame her, claiming the child wasn’t mine and accusing her of using the pregnancy to trap me,” he alleged.
