Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has explained why he chose to remain at the Spanish giants despite strong interest from Arsenal, saying his time at the Santiago Bernabéu still feels “too short.”
The Brazilian international has signed a new six-year contract that will keep him at Real Madrid until June 30, 2032, ending months of speculation over his future.
Arsenal had reportedly identified the 26-year-old as their preferred option to strengthen the left wing and were closely monitoring his contract situation.
However, Real Madrid reached an agreement with the player’s representatives after successful negotiations.
According to reports, the new deal will see Vinicius earn around €30 million per year, a significant increase from his previous salary of about €17.5 million annually.
Shortly after the contract extension was confirmed, Vinicius shared an emotional message on Instagram, making it clear he has no intention of leaving the Spanish capital anytime soon.
“Eight years at the Bernabéu are too short… Six more years, and then forever,” he wrote.
The winger’s decision was also influenced by his strong relationship with head coach José Mourinho, who reportedly assured him he remains a key part of the club’s long-term plans.
Since arriving from Brazilian side Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has become one of Real Madrid’s most influential players.
He has scored 128 goals in 375 appearances and helped the club win 14 major trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles.
With Vinicius’ future now secured, Real Madrid are expected to focus on integrating new signings into Mourinho’s squad, while Arsenal are likely to turn their attention to alternative attacking targets before the transfer window closes.
