The Nigerian labour movement is in mourning following the death of Comrade Domingo Michael Adeleke, Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC). Adeleke passed away on Tuesday in Geneva after a brief illness while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC).

Adeleke was in Switzerland as part of Nigeria’s delegation to the conference when he fell ill and was taken for medical attention. His passing was confirmed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which described him as a committed trade unionist dedicated to the welfare of workers.

“Comrade Domingo was a committed trade unionist whose dedication to Nigerian workers and the struggle for decent work took him to the global stage right to the end,” an NLC official said.

A member of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Adeleke played a key role in labour advocacy and workers’ welfare initiatives in Lagos State.

The NLC said it had visited the hospital to mourn his passing and had begun arrangements for the repatriation of his remains.

Tributes have poured in from labour leaders and colleagues who remembered Adeleke for his lifelong dedication to public service, workers’ rights, and social justice. The NLC extended heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all members of the Nigerian labour movement.
