Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi is on the verge of making Nigerian football history as he prepares to earn his 100th international cap in Wednesday’s friendly against Portugal.

The Fulham star currently has 99 appearances for Nigeria and is expected to become only the fourth player to reach the century mark for the national team if he features in the encounter.

Iwobi would join an exclusive list of Nigerian football legends who have recorded 100 or more appearances for the Super Eagles. The elite group currently consists of former captain Joseph Yobo, legendary goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, and current skipper Ahmed Musa.

Since making his debut for Nigeria in 2015, Iwobi has established himself as a key figure in the national team, representing the country at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cup competitions.

Reaching 100 caps would mark a significant milestone in the 29-year-old’s international career and further cement his place among the most enduring players in Super Eagles history.

All eyes will now be on Wednesday’s clash with Portugal as Iwobi stands on the brink of joining one of Nigerian football’s most exclusive clubs.
