Nigerian pop singer, Mayorkun’s days with Davido Music Worldwide owned by superstar Davido have come to an end.
Mayorkun, who got signed on to the label in 2016, came into limelight after the release of his hit track “Eleko.” He would go on to drop other hit singles such as “Che Che”, “Mama”, and many more.
The 29-year-old recently released his second studio album, “Back In Office” under American music company, Sony Music Entertainment — making it the second time he’d be releasing a project under the record label.
Report has it that he quietly exited DMW recently after his contract was not renewed. This explains why his new album cover does not have the label’s logo nor enjoy its promotion.
It would be recalled that it was rumored sometime in August that the singer has left Davido’s label after he released a song under Sony Music Entertainment, and his appearance in the DMW crew reduced.
In an interview with Vibe.ng’s Cyclone Artemis back in 2017, Mayorkun had explained that he really wasn’t in a contract with the label, saying he had no intention to leave DMW.
“Our stuff is not really contractual in that sense. It’s just love. If you check my contract, there are some things that I am not supposed to be enjoying now based on the legal terms but I still enjoy them. There was one time Davido just dashed us bar for no bloody reason… It’s not like we did something to deserve the cheque. He just gave us,” he had said.
Meanwhile, the pop singer’s recently-dropped album is a follow up to his first studio album, “Mayor of Lagos” which was released on November 16, 2018 featuring top-rated acts like Sarkodie and Davido.
