American singer Chris Brown has been handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence in the United Kingdom over an attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a London nightclub in 2023.

Brown was sentenced on Monday at Southwark Crown Court in London after pleading guilty to affray in connection with the incident.

The case arose from an altercation at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London, on February 19, 2023, during which Brown allegedly struck Diaw on the head with a tequila bottle.

The sentence means the singer will not immediately serve time in prison, provided he complies with the conditions of the suspension and does not commit another offence that leads to the sentence being activated.

The court also handed a four-month suspended prison sentence to Brown’s associate, Omololu Akinlolu, over his involvement in the incident.

Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 each towards prosecution costs.

During sentencing, Judge Tony Baumgartner said Brown’s celebrity status and commercial success did not place him above the law.

The case attracted attention because of the singer’s international profile and the length of time between the nightclub incident and the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.
