Liverpool have announced the departure of head coach Arne Slot, ending the Dutch manager’s tenure at Anfield after two seasons in charge.

The Premier League club confirmed on Saturday that Slot had left his role with immediate effect and said efforts to appoint a new manager were already underway.

Slot arrived at Liverpool in June 2024 from Dutch side Feyenoord and enjoyed a highly successful debut campaign. He guided the Reds to their 20th English top-flight title, a feat that earned him the League Managers Association (LMA) Manager of the Year award for the 2024/25 season.

Under his leadership, Liverpool also reached the Carabao Cup final and advanced to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 during his first season.

In the recently concluded 2025/26 campaign, Slot secured another Champions League qualification for the club and led the team to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition.

In a statement, Liverpool’s owners praised the 47-year-old for his achievements and contributions to the club, describing his impact as “significant, meaningful and successful.”

The club acknowledged that the decision to part ways with Slot was difficult but said it was taken with the future direction of the team in mind.

“Arne’s contribution to Liverpool FC has been significant, meaningful and, most importantly, successful,” the statement read.

Liverpool also commended Slot’s leadership during challenging periods, including his handling of events following the death of forward Diogo Jota, noting that his compassion and professionalism reflected his character.

Despite the successes recorded during his tenure, the club said it had concluded that a change in direction was necessary to maintain progress and achieve its long-term ambitions.

Liverpool stressed that the decision was not a criticism of Slot’s managerial ability but rather a strategic move aimed at shaping the team’s future.

Slot departs Anfield having delivered a Premier League title and restored the club to the summit of English football. Liverpool said he leaves with the gratitude of the club and supporters, adding that he and his family would always be welcome at Anfield.
