Lagos SWAN honours Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan

The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Toyin Gafaar has been honoured by the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria.

Popularly known as Bolowotan, the Commission’s boss who before his appointment by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was a sports proprietor and founder of Bolowotan Football Club which made it to the Nigerian National League (NNL) has been celebrated for his contribution to the development of football in the state.

According to the Chairman of Lagos SWAN, Debo Oshundun, the LSSC DG is being honoured due to his strides and contributions to grassroots development of football and sports in general.

Also giving remarks, the immediate past Chairman of Lagos SWAN, Fred Edore expressed his excitement to be finally meeting Toyin Gafaar whom he has heard so much about in the past. He disclosed that the contribution of Gafaar’s Bolowotan Football Club to Lagos grassroots football development cannot be quantified.

The Chairperson of the Lagos State Sports Supporters Club, Alhaja Shade Gbajumo also disclosed that the celebration of Mr Gafaar is a highly worthy one while expressing that his past few months as the sports commission boss has shown promises.

The Lagos Liaison Officer of the Federal Ministry of Education, Alhaji Bode Durotoye also commended the LSSC Director General revealing that his first steps at the helms of affairs of sports in the state has shown that he is focussed to make a difference to ensure sports is paid more attention.

Other commentators including Kayode Badmus, Yomi Kuku amongst others also spoke glowingly of the sports administrator.

The sports commission under Toyin Gafaar was also implored to ensure that other sports also get attention hitherto given to football to ensure general sports development.

The Lagos State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria is currently celebrating its annual sports week which includes sporting events which have journalists competing against themselves.
