Lagos police confirms arrest of 3 Dowen College students over colleague’s controversial death

At least three students of Dowen College located in the Lekki area of Lagos are currently in police cusody for their alleged involvement in the assault and eventual death of their colleague, 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Hakeem Odumosu confirmed the development while speaking with The PUNCH on Tuesday morning.

Odumosu disclosed that two other students of the school also named as perpetrators of the assault are now at large.

He was quoted as saying, “Two out of those mentioned in the viral video are at large while three of the students are helping us to get others.

“I am in contact with my counterpart in Delta State. I spoke with the parents yesterday, we are perfecting everything scientifically.”

The Lagos CP added that the school principal, housemasters, and other officials of the school are also assisting the police with information as the Command launched a full-scale probe into the events that led to Oromoni’s controversial death.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government had ordered the indefinite closure of the school, pending the outcome of an investigation into the event.

Blackbox Nigeria had earlier reported that the Junior Secondary School 2 student died from multiple injuries after he was reportedly bullied and beaten by fellow students — a claim the school has since denied.

While circumstances surrounding his death remain a subject of debate, many Nigerians on social media have called for justice for the late student and his family.
