‘Lagos is held in serfdom for 21 years’ — Bode George, others knock Tinubu

Amid intense politicking ahead of the next general polls in 2023, an indigenous sociopolitical group, Omo Eko Pataki has expressed concerns that Lagos State has been held in the unbelievable serfdom of one man since the inception of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic.

In a statement on Thursday, the group led by a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, argued that it was time for a new order in the state, urging true Lagosians to change the tide.

“This is why we are back again as Ọmọ Eko Pataki to dwell on the troubled history of our state. Lagos state is indeed ensnared, captured, held in unbelievable serfdom for 21 years by the caprice of one man. It is a shame and at once a blighting tragedy,” the statement said.

Though the group didn’t explicitly mention the name of the “one man” who has held Lagos under captivity, a close observation of George’s history as a known adversary of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, indicates that the statement referred to the latter.

Meanwhile, the comments come amid widespread speculations about Tinubu’s presidential ambition. Though the former Lagos governor is yet to formally declare his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, there have been different calls from his loyalists, asking him to throw his hat in the ring at the 2023 presidential polls.
