Legendary highlife musician, Sir Victor Uwaifo, aged 80,has been confirmed dead on Saturday in Benin City.
The music icon, popular for releasing the hit tracks, “Joromi” and “Mammy Water” was a multi-instrumentalist and a renowned virtual artist.
The news of his death was disclosed by Uwaifo Peter de Rock, who is said to be one of his children, via his Facebook page on Saturday evening m
Peter who did not disclose the cause of the death of his late father, went on to express pain at the passing of the music legend.
In his words, “Daddy. Why Did you leave us now. Prof sir Victor UWAIFO has gone to rest. Black Saturday for me now. One week now after collaborating with me.”
Sir Victor Uwaifo, a musicologist once served as Commissioner for Arts and Culture under the governorship of Lucky Igbinedion.
He was a First-Class graduate of Visual Arts at UNIBEN. The project he did while he was an undergraduate, ‘A king on a horse’ is a signature arts poster at the Ekenwan Campus of the university. He was legendary guitarist and was popular for his dancing steps. Also, he was a Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Benin.
As at this moment, there has been no report confirming the cause of his death.
