A former presidential candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in the aborted 1993 Third Republic, Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, is dead.
The late politician died in the early hours of Monday, after a brief illness, a family source confirmed.
The source disclosed that the funeral prayer would hold at 9.00am at his residence at Gandu Albasa, in Kano metropolis.
BlackBox Nigeria reports that the late politician and businessman, who was born in June 1947, was also the Chairman of Kano Elders Forum.
In the 1993 presidential election, he contested against MKO Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The military regime led by Ibrahim Babangida, however, annulled the election which was presumed to have been won by Abiola.
Tofa was earlier rumoured to have died on Friday before it was denied.
