Mayorkun, a Nigerian artiste who rose to fame after covering Davido’s “The Money,” has revealed that he learned the art of songwriting in Nigerian languages from Olamide, a legendary singer and rapper.

In a video he shared on Snapchat, Mayorkun said that Olamide showed him that he could write quality songs without relying on the English language.

He added the acronym IYKVK, which means “If you know, you know.”

Mayorkun, whose real name is Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, is known for his hit song “Cheche,” among others.

He was signed by Davido in 2016 after the latter discovered his talent on X (formerly Twitter).

He released his debut single, “Eleko,” which became an instant hit. He also won the Next Rated award at The Headies in 2018, cementing his place in the Nigerian music industry.

However, in 2021, Mayorkun decided to leave Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), the record label that launched his career.
