Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and reportedly carted away firearms belonging to officers on duty.
The attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. at the immigration facility located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway, near an NNPC filling station.
According to sources, the armed assailants stormed the office while business activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market. The attackers reportedly overpowered personnel on duty before seizing their weapons.
The number of firearms taken during the operation could not be immediately verified.
Witnesses said the gunmen escaped from the area under the cover of darkness shortly after carrying out the attack.
Reacting to the development, the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had yet to receive an official briefing on the incident.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” Ayanlade said.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security around government facilities in the state. As of press time, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor other security agencies had issued an official statement on the attack.
Authorities are expected to commence investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the raid and track down those responsible.
