Unknown gunmen have reportedly abducted Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victims were identified as Peter and Paul John-Paul.

According to a statement issued by Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the abduction occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday while Mrs. John-Paul was taking the children to school.

The family disclosed that security agencies were immediately alerted and have commenced investigations into the incident.

“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement said.

Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is said to be the youngest of five children of the Adelabu family. She reportedly retired voluntarily last year from her positions at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before relocating to Ibadan with her children.

Family sources said she was preparing to reunite with her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier relocated to the United States.

The family described the abduction as a disturbing development and expressed confidence that security agencies would secure the safe release of the victims and apprehend those responsible.

Chief Adelabu and members of the family appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue efforts.

“We also solicit prayers and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period,” the statement added.

The family further urged anyone with useful information that could assist security agencies to report to the nearest police station or relevant authorities.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.

The abduction comes amid growing security concerns in Oyo State following recent attacks and kidnappings in parts of the state, including the abduction of pupils and teachers in the Oriire area of Ogbomoso.
