Germany Knocks out Nigeria’s Super Falcons from the competition

Two time Women Football World Cup champions, Germany are through to the Quarter Finals after thrashing the Super Falcons 3 goals to nil at the Stade des Alpes, Grenoble, France.

The Nigerian side, who after finishing in 3rd position at group stage level were picked among the best losers to play in the Round of 16 were no match for the German side. Germany’s skipper, Alexander Popp had put her side in early lead with a clear header from the corner kick spot before Sara Daebritz got the second goal moments after the game opener. The first half ended 2-0 as the Falcons were left to struggle back into the game.

Nigeria however had more woes in the last minutes of the 2nd half after Ayinde who had had a great day on the field mistakenly gave the ball away in a back pass as it went straight to Schueller who then fired the ball into the net, thereby sealed Germany’s position in the Quarter Finals.
