By An accountant with Nigerian telecom giant, Globacom Limited, Folake Abiola has taken her own life after a longtime struggle with depression.
According to reports, the 45-year-old committed suicide last Friday at her apartment in the Lekki area of Lagos.
She was said to have gulped a bottle of popular insecticide, Sniper, which led to her death. Her lifeless body was discovered men of the Nigeria Police Force who arrived the residence after they were alerted by family members of the deceased.
It was gathered Abiola’s remains were buried the same day, as police authorities commenced investigation into the incident.
Speaking with The PUNCH, a colleague of the deceased revealed that she had been suffering from depression for years, contrary to claims online that Abiola committed suicide due to loneliness and lack of a husband.
“She was going through extreme depression, but people that did not know what she was going through have been posting rubbish online,” the colleague was quoted as saying.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin had also confirmed the incident.
