Formula One: Meet Ugo Karter Ugochukwu, The 13-year-old Nigerian who is the next Lewis Hamilton
BlackBox Nigeria earlier broke the news of the signing of Karter Ugo Ugochukwu Orlandi, a 13-year-old American of Nigerian origin who is now being predicted to the next big thing in Formula One.
British racing team, McLauren yesterday announced the signing of Ugochukwu who started winning laurens over seven years ago. The teenage star also won the FIA OKJ European Championship in 2020 which made him the most sought-after young racer in the game.
The Lewis Hamilton Connection
Karter Ugochukwu and Lewis Hamilton have a lot of things in common and it is not in the least surprising. At age 13, Lewis was also signed by McLauren after which he went on to win global championships making him the biggest name in Formula One. Hamilton has won seven Formula One World Drivers’ Championships since he was signed by McLauren in 2007, a feat he was consistent with even after leaving McLauren for rival Mercedes.
The only other person with similar record is racing legend, Michael Schumacher who has also won seven Championships.
Since 2012 after Hamilton left McLauren, it appeared the British racing team has been on the look out for another wonderkid in his mould and observers believe Ugochukwu is that star.
Born in New York, Karter Ugochukwu is the son of iconic model, Oluchi Orlandi, a globally acclaimed fashion star who won the Face of Africa in 1998 at age 17. His father, Luca Orlandi is an Italian fashion designer.
The couple got married in 2008 and have two sons, Hugo (Ugo) and 8-year-old Marco.
No doubt, Karter is the future of Formula One and one can only hope he walks in the shoes of his mentor and probably surpasses Hamilton’s achievements.
