Former Ogun governor, Gbenga Daniel to declare for Senate

Chief Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, has perfected plans to run for Senate, BlackBox Nigeria can authoritatively report.

A source close to the ex-governor revealed that he is seeking to represent Ogun East Senatorial Seat in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

Daniel will officially declare his intention on Thursday, March 10 at his polling unit, Ward 12, Unit 7, Isote in the Sagamu Local Government of the state.

In 2019, the 65-year-old politician who served as Ogun State governor from 2003 to 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that ruling party “offers many options”.

He recently dismissed talks that he might be interested in contesting in the 2023 presidential polls, saying he is contented with serving his senatorial district.

“What my people are asking me to do is even more than the senatorial seat. Some people are saying, your profile, who are those who want to be President today, that you cannot compare probably with”, Daniel revealed in an interview on February 20.

“I am contended to in my little way, serve my senatorial district, add value to what the governor is doing, and so and so on. And that is where we are today.”
