Femi Kuti Gets Two Nominations for Grammys

Femi Kuti, Nigerian singer-songwriter and eldest son of late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, has bagged two nominations for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, scheduled to hold on January 31, 2021, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The 58-year-old musician was featured by Grammy Award winning British band, Coldplay in their 2019 album ‘Everyday Life’ with the track ‘Arabesque’.

The song is said to be an alternative pop that mixes American guitar sessions and Afrobeat. The Nigerian legend and his band are credited on the song alongside Belgian rapper, Stromae. Femi Kuti is credited as a featured artist.

Coldplay’s ‘Everyday Life’ has been nominated for Album Of The Year at the 2021 Grammys alongside Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Haim, Dua Lipa, Post Malone and more.

In a tweet by the accomplished singer, he responded that he got two nominations. Though as at the time of filing this report, BlackBox Nigeria is yet to ascertain in what category the second nomination was on.

Before now, Femi has four nominations for a Grammy Award in the Best World Music Album category for his works; Fight to Win in 2002, Day by Day in 2009, Africa for Africa in 2012 and “No Place for My Dream” in 2014.
