Esther Affigbo, John Peter Emerge Winners of Female and Male Categories of 4th Oba Kabir Shotobi Marathon

The duo of Esther Affigbo, John Peter Emerge had emerged winners of the Female and Male Categories of 4th Oba Kabir Shotobi Marathon held on Saturday, October 13, 2018.

The event which ordinarily should have held on October 1st, was shifted, due to the Primary Elections of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a means to allow party faithfuls participate in the APC Primaries.

This year’s edition kick started at the prestigious Palace of the Ayangbure of Ikorodu. His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, who flagged off the programme and cut the tape for the commencement of the race at exactly 8:30am.

Shortly after that, the initiator and sponsor of the ‘Oba Shotobi Mini Marathon’, Hon SOB Agunbiade, called the athletes to the starting point and thereafter gave them the green light. The race of 7.3km ended at the Police Barracks, Igbogbo. 

The organizing Chairman, Mr Akeem Bello at the price giving ground  appreciated the Stakeholders in the Marathon race, while reiterating that 408 students applied for the race while 270 were eventually selected. Others were dropped based on health ground and age limit.

He also thanked the sponsor of the mini marathon, Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade, congratulating him for his audacity of purpose. He further enjoined corporate bodies to co-sponsor subsequent editions.

The Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly and the sponsor of Oba Kabir Shotobi Mini Marathon, Hon S.O.B Agunbiade, in his speech paid respect to the Ayangburen of Ikorodu and other Royal Heads in Ikorodu Division, while applauding the organisers for the job well done. He assured the people of Ikorodu of much better things to come in the nearest future.

HRM Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi in his remarks sincerely thanked Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade and applauded the participants while enjoining the parents to encourage their wards in more of such events. The mornack appealed passionately to the people of Ikorodu to live in unity and forgive one another for the development of Ikorodu.

In the Male category, John Peter of High Touch Schools, Adeniyi Adewale of Yewa Grammar School and Oyetunde Toheeb of Ipakodo Senior Grammar School, clinched the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. While the female category was not left out as well, as Esther Affigbo of Luwasa High School Ijede, who broke the last year record with 33:01.72min, clinched the first position along side her counterparts, Wahab Zainab of Homat Group Schools Igbogbo and Ogunyemi Nimota of Majidun Senior Grammar School, who took 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The 4th to 10th positions were equally given cheques, while11th to 20th positions were also given consolation Bags. 

The high point of the marathon was the celebration of 11 year old Tobi, who took 30th position out of 270 participants.
