A disturbing report has emerged surrounding the death of veteran sports journalist Adeolu Johnson in Abuja, following allegations that his second wife disappeared with a substantial amount of money raised to support his medical treatment.
The incident was brought to public attention by football talent scout and sports writer Abiola Shodiya, who shared the account in a post on X on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
According to Shodiya, Johnson’s deteriorating health condition prompted his colleagues in the sports industry to organise a fundraising effort to help him settle hospital bills and purchase necessary medication.
He explained that the donations were released in two instalments, with the first payment reportedly reaching Johnson for his immediate medical needs.
However, the situation allegedly became complicated after a second and larger amount was transferred.
Shodiya claimed that Johnson’s second wife, who reportedly had access to his bank account, disappeared with the money.
The journalist’s colleagues were said to have made the financial contributions in the hope of securing the treatment he urgently needed.
Sadly, Johnson reportedly died following the unfortunate development.
Reacting to the incident, Shodiya expressed sadness over the loss and prayed for the deceased to find eternal rest.
The report has sparked concerns about the circumstances surrounding the journalist’s death and the alleged disappearance of funds contributed by colleagues and well-wishers for his healthcare.
As of the time of this report, there has been no independent confirmation of the allegation against Johnson’s second wife, while details about any possible police investigation remain unknown.
May his soul rest in peace.
