Pasuma announces second hip-hop album, ‘Fuji Afro’, 10 years after debut project

Veteran Nigerian Fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, has announced the release of his second hip-hop studio album, titled Fuji Afro, scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026.

Pasuma announced the forthcoming album in a post on his social media accounts on Thursday, November 5, describing it as a continuation of his musical journey, a decade after releasing his debut hip-hop album.

The singer said the new project reflects years of growth, musical evolution and creativity, bringing together different artistes and sounds.

“Ten years after my debut hip-hop album, the journey continues with my second studio album. A decade of growth, evolution and musical creativity, bringing together different talents and sounds. Every sound tells a story, every track carries a feeling. FUJI AFRO — NOVEMBER 6,” he wrote.

The album marks Pasuma’s return to a full-length hip-hop project following My World, which was released in 2015.

Born Wasiu Alabi Ajibola Odetola, Pasuma began his music career in 1984 and became known for his Fuji music performances in Lagos.

He was influenced by veteran Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, particularly following the release of K1’s Talazo ’84 album.

Pasuma began writing his own songs after being inspired by the album and spent several years performing at hotels and other venues in Lagos before releasing his first studio album, Recognition, in 1993.

He followed it with Choices before gaining wider recognition with his third album, Orobokibo, released in 1995. The success of the project helped establish his position in the Fuji music industry and earned him the Best Fuji Artiste award at the Fame Magazine Awards.

Over the years, Pasuma has released numerous albums and collaborated with musicians across different genres, including King Sunny Ade and Bola Abimbola. He has also ventured into acting, appearing in productions including Gangs of Lagos.

In January 2022, Pasuma disclosed that he had recorded 60 albums since beginning his music career, during an event marking his 37th year on stage.

His move into mainstream hip-hop and pop music became more prominent in 2015 when he announced My World, his first full-length project in the genre.

The 16-track album was released under his record label, Wasbar Records, and featured collaborations with Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Phyno, Patoranking, Oritse Femi, Qdot and Frankie Free.

Other songs on the project included Ogede Ti Pon, Ife and Oruka.

Before its release, Pasuma explained that he had decided to record a hip-hop album because of the growing popularity of the genre and requests from his fans. He also said hip-hop was not unfamiliar territory, citing his previous collaborations with artistes such as Eedris Abdulkareem, 2Baba and 9ice.

He disclosed that he had spent about three years working on the album but struggled to complete it because of his busy schedule.

The project was officially unveiled in Lagos on July 30, 2015, with an album listening party organised by Wasbar Records and AO21 Media.

The forthcoming Fuji Afro contains 12 tracks and features Olamide, Qdot and Terry Apala.

The tracklist includes Faaja, Premium, Ijo Alhaji featuring Olamide, Fuji Vibez, Halley, Payday, Jaye, Up Up Way featuring Qdot, Gbadun, Cornerstone, Calm Down and Apala Fuji featuring Terry Apala.

The album will be released under Wasbar Records, with Pasuma credited as executive producer. Odetola ‘Rawkey White’ Bolaji is listed for artiste and repertoire duties.

Ahead of the album, Pasuma released Premium on October 29, 2026, as an introductory single from the project. The song combines elements of Fuji music and contemporary hip-hop production.

With Fuji Afro, Pasuma is releasing his second full-length hip-hop project, 11 years after My World, while continuing his career in Fuji music.
