Strong indications emerge Friday morning that the troubled 4th National Mobile telephony carrier in the country, 9Mobile (formerly Etisalat), might be on the verge of getting new owners as Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote is said to be in serious negotiation to acquire the telco.

Also in the bidding inside sources told BlackBox Nigeria are Vodafone, UK Orange Mobile and Airtel.

It will be recalled that the one time flourishing telco ran into trouble waters when it fell out on arrangements of repayments of loan gotten from a consortium of banks, a development that prompted the Central Bank of Nigeria to take over the company in a bid to settle all the banks.

As it stands, the company is being operated by the apex bank as it has appointed top board officials to carry on with the running of the services.

United Kingdom’s Orange mobile has over the years tried to gain entrance into the Nigeria telecommunications industry after years of operating in neighbouring country, Ghana.
