NUPENG Threatens Nationwide Strike Over Clash With AMCON

The National Union of Petroleum And Natural Gas Workers have announced its plans to commence on a nationwide strike following a fall out in discussions with a Federal Government agency, the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.

This decision was arrived at the National Executive Council meeting held in Abuja. It was disclosed that some members of the Union were laid off by the AMCON in 2013 after it took over a firm but failed to pay the workers since then.

Mr Igwe Achese during the meeting stated that attempts made by the affected members of the union have tried to engage the agency to pay them off their terminal entitlements after it terminated their services at the firm.

Mr Achese disclosed that the Union will direct all its members to commence with the strike action in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja before extending the industrial action to other States.
