Ashake Foundation Marks Five Years Of Empowering, Employing Widows Within The Country

Just like the proverbial little drops of water making a mighty ocean, so is this dream that started with the Lagos born, Mayowa Kuti-Adegbile, with the sole aim of giving back to the society which has now grown into a vision that has thrived for five years.

This dream is none other than ‘Ashake Foundation’, a Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on the plight of widows and their children with various relief services in their businesses, children’s educational supplies and educational financing. The organization has stood on three major pillars since establishment which includes; empowering widows, employing widows and educating children of widows.

The Foundation took to social media today to commemorate its five years of existence and giving back to the society even from its humble beginnings. The foundation also took out time to preach the message of love and giving.

“There is a Chinese saying that goes: If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.

“Five years ago we embarked on a remarkable journey to impact lives and improve the nation through our three major thematic areas which are: empowerment of widows, employment of widows, and education of the children of widows. It has been a memorial event for us and we have been grateful.” The statement reads.

Also, in the anniversary mood, the Foundation held on the 15th of December 2018, a widows fashion runway and exhibition project that featured 30 widows from Galadimawa, Kabayi, Kurudu and Maraba areas in Abuja.

The foundation finally expressed profound appreciation to supporting partners like 360chef, Mark C Justice, Omofuoma Agharite, Loudvoice and Asa Stitches for their unflinching support over the years.

“To our excellent volunteers, this project is successful because you have given your best. To our donors, we are here because you give via cash and kind. To the next years, we are excited about the future.” The anniversary message read.

Mayowa Kuti-Adegbile, the founder of the foundation and graduate of English at the Lagos State University (LASU) was one of the three Nigerians that made it to the top 10 finalists in the year 2014 Google Africa Connected competition in July, 2017.
