President Bola Tinubu met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, amidst growing concerns about economic imbalance and climate change.

The private meeting, requested by King Charles, highlighted the enduring relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed in a statement that King Charles had requested the meeting.

This marks the second interaction between the two leaders, their first being at the COP 28 Climate Summit in Dubai the previous year.

The conversation was focused on pressing global and regional concerns, with climate change at the forefront. Both President Tinubu and King Charles discussed strategies to deepen cooperation ahead of key international events, including the COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa.

While addressing the climate crisis, President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to balancing climate action with the country’s energy needs, given its economic instability. He also reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to adopt sustainable solutions on the global stage.

The two leaders also explored innovative methods of climate financing and agreed to foster stronger partnerships, leveraging Nigeria’s position within Africa and the Commonwealth to drive these initiatives forward.
