The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the selection of former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as the party’s Vice-Presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by thr party’s national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, after what it described as extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives across all geopolitical zones, the party said the decision followed the conclusion of its presidential primaries, where Amaechi reportedly emerged as runner-up.
According to the party, the Atiku Abubakar–Amaechi ticket represents a strategic political alliance aimed at offering Nigerians “experienced and tested leadership” capable of addressing the country’s current challenges.
The ADC highlighted Amaechi’s political career spanning legislative and executive roles, noting his time as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation, where he oversaw major rail and transport infrastructure projects.
It described him as a reform-oriented politician with broad national influence, particularly in the South-South region, adding that his experience would complement Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition.
“The proposed partnership represents more than a political alliance; it is the coming together of two tested statesmen with the experience, national reach, and leadership capacity required to reposition Nigeria for prosperity, security, and inclusive development,” the statement read.
The party further said the joint ticket reflects a “national coalition” aimed at bridging regional and generational divides, while offering what it called a credible alternative for governance in 2027.
ADC called on party members, coalition partners, civil society groups, youth organizations, and Nigerians to support the emerging alliance, describing it as a step toward national renewal.
