Former PM News editor, David Odey, has passed away, drawing tributes from colleagues and media professionals who remembered him as a dedicated and highly professional journalist.
He was said to have died on Thursday June 13 at his Ijebu-ode, Ogun state residence.
Among those who paid tribute was former presidential adviser and veteran journalist Femi Ojudu, who disclosed that he had worked closely with Odey during his time at PM News.
Ojudu described the late journalist as a model professional whose commitment to journalism stood out throughout his career.
“I was saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. David Odey, a former editor of PM News,” Ojudu said.
“Having served as his supervising editor, I can personally attest to his professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to journalism.”
According to Ojudu, Odey was known for his punctuality, discipline, and reliability in the newsroom. He noted that the late editor consistently ensured stories were sourced, edited, processed, and published on schedule.
“David was the kind of journalist every newsroom values—punctual, disciplined, dependable, and utterly committed to his craft. He was always at his desk, ensuring that stories were sourced, edited, processed, and published on time,” he said.
Ojudu further praised Odey’s humility and work ethic, describing him as a journalist who worked quietly behind the scenes without seeking recognition, yet made invaluable contributions to the success of the newspaper.
“In an age when commitment is often in short supply, David stood out for his strong work ethic and sense of duty. He understood that journalism is a public trust and discharged his responsibilities with admirable integrity,” he added.
The former editor said Odey’s death represents a significant loss to the journalism profession and to those who had the opportunity to work alongside him.
“His passing is a painful loss to the journalism profession and to all of us who had the privilege of working with him,” Ojudu stated.
He concluded his tribute with a farewell message: “Farewell, David. You served your profession well and left behind a worthy example of dedication and excellence. May your soul rest in perfect peace.”
However, news of his passing has continued to generate reactions from members of the media community who remember him for his contributions to journalism and newsroom excellence.
