Osinbajo Swears In New Chief Justice Of Nigeria, Tasks Him On Judicial Confidence

The newly appointed Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen GCON moments ago took his Oath of Office before the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The lawmakers present at the ceremony were led by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.

After taking his Oath, Osinbajo urged the new CJN to try in his capacity to restore the hope and confidence Nigerians once had in the judiciary.

Recall that Justice Onnoghen was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate after Acting President Osinbajo forwarded his name to the Chambers.

His swearing-in to office affirms him as the Head of the Judiciary arm of Government. A position that have been left open since the last Chief Justice, Justice Mohammed Mahmud retired in November 2016.
