Onnoghen: Supreme Court Kicks Out Senate’s Suit Over CJN’s Suspension

ONNOGHEN: SUPREME COURT KICKS OUT SENATE’S SUIT OVER CJN’S SUSPENSION

The Supreme Court has kicked out the suit filed by the Senate, challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

BlackBox Nigeria gathers that the report first published by the Nation has it that the lawyer to the Senate, Paul Erokoro (SAN) told the court, when the case was called in the early hours of today Tuesday, February 5, that he filed a notice of discontinuance on Monday, February 4, in the suit marked: SC76/2019.

Suspended CJN Onnoghen drags President Buhari to court

Information has it that the Senate’s lawyer was silent on why the plaintiff chose to discontinue Onnoghen’s case.

 

The lawyer to President Buhari, Maimuna Lami Shiro accompanied by Tijani Gazali, did not object to the plaintiff’s decision to withdraw the case, following which the court struck out the suit.

Yusuph Olaniyonu, the media aide to the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, in a statement on today said the decision follows the intervention of the NJC on the issue.

 

“The Senate has therefore decided to discontinue the case it filed in the Supreme Court. It should be noted that the case has been slated for hearing tomorrow,” the statement had said.
