“I Don’t Believe In Theory Alone, But Practical And It’s Effects On People”- Ikorodu West LCDA Ward A Councillorship Aspirant

Many political promises these days originate and fizzle out on pages of paper used to canvass electorate by politicians during electioneering, this might not be so in the case of Ms Enitan Abraham, a grassroot politician vying for the position of Councillor in Ward A of Ikorodu-West Local Council Development Area under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In an exclusive chat with BlackBox Nigeria, Ms Enitan disclosed that the plight of her constituents for a trustworthy person birthed her intention to vie for the post.

Dating her experience in politics back in the days her Grandmother usually engaged them after holding party meetings, she stated that the discipline for engagement in grassroot politics have been long instilled in her.

Can we Meet you?

Enitan Abraham is my name, from Ward A, Ikorodu West LCDA, where am seeking for the Councillorship position.

I’m a graduate of Chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, and a native of Ipakodo Town. I am the Convener of #TeamIrorunDe2017.

Why Politics?

Power is never served a La-Carte, so effecting Change won’t just happen without active participation in Governance. Have been opportuned to listen to my people’s yearning need for kindhearted strides to put smiles on their faces. It hurts when our women are relegated to third class category in our country’s polity ignoring Women’s ability to Multi-Task. The time is ripe to institute that Women shouldn’t be seen as mere electorate but can vie for an office and be voted for. Participation in politics for me is people oriented and that is Our Mandate.

Your Plans for your Constituency?

Ward A, Ikorodu West is blessed with good people committed to the Progressives and in all ramification are keen to our SMART Card (Specific, Measurable, Accepted, Realistic, Time Bound) key guide which will enhance our lawmaking responsibilities and Communal Projects.

It’s disheartening to tell you that Ikorodu West (Ward A) is a Land of Aquatic Splendor but to my surprise one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which focuses on riverine areas is not given proper attention, though our performing Governor, His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode is working tirelessly but the LCDA’s role shouldn’t be undermined.

We will make laws and as well enlighten our people on the way to go. I don’t believe in just theory but practical and positive effects on the people. Our people will be carried along in all our projects and plans, the era of no proper communication between the representative and the electorate is long gone. Irorun Ara Ilu Lojemilogun

Are you worried about other Contenders?

The more the merrier and it’s expected that other interested aspirants will show interest which is good for our democratic process and notably our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC) is structured on democratic legacies, it is welcome but honestly am not aware of any candidate for now though am expecting others to declare their intention.

However, my concerned and priority is that our people should not be deprived of the dividends of democracy and vibrant representation.

Do you have Legislation or Political experience?

My thirst to proffer a distinct solution to my Constituents yearning didn’t start yesterday, to set the record straight, my grandmother was an active grassroot politician and I learnt lot from her strides which today manifest in my quest to serve meritoriously. I remember whenever we accompany her to meetings, she will take her time to instill in us proper culture which exposes me to the dynamism of grassroot politics. Also for the records, I was an active grassroot volunteer and member of the then ACN now APC. Grassroot Mobilzer, Liberal Minds which see to actualization of Ambode for Governor mandate.

Moreso, I played a significant role in Ahmadu Bello University Students Union. We’ve being examined and tested with responsibilities and my records speaks Volume, don’t forget the world is already at the Knowledge base economy stage so your exposure, knowledge measures should measure your experience in a real sense.

Can you share with us your political Mentor/Role Model?

Every Morning is another opportunity to Learn and un-learn and our daily engagements are the best avenue to Learn. Have come across many people both Male and Female whom have learn lots from their strides silently, ofcourse they are my mentor though unknown to them. I am one of the few young ladies who had the privilege to be under tutelage of excellence driven people.

That woman that sells Akara at Ebute Police bus stop is a Mentor because she’s hardworking and doing all within her to feed her family and educate her Children, that Pepper Seller on my street is equally a Mentor for staying true to her convictions against all Odds.

I get inspired whenever am with my Constituent especially the Women. They share their worries and pains and I wonder how they manage to survive. Now you will agree with me that my mentor and role Model isn’t just the Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen Johnson of Liberia, Ikorodu West APC Women but that very woman with fighting spirit and giving up is not an option.

What is your Political Philosophy?

Dont always think about what your country would give to you, but what you can give to your country. (John Kennedy)
