World Cup: Croatia Defeats Host Nation, Russia, Books Spot In Semi Final Against England
Group D leaders, Croatia moments ago edged out host Nation, Russia in a penalty shoot out after ending open play in 2-2.
The end of the 4th quarter final match have ended the campaign of the Russian Team in the 2018 edition of the World Cup, holding in it’s country.
An early goal by Denis Cheryshev had put the host country in front during the first half, but an equaliser by Croatian midfielder, Andrej Kramaric ended the hopes of ending the first 45minutes in favour of the Russian side.
The second half witnessed intense attempts from both sides but ended without goals at the end of full time play. The match slipped into Extra 30mins which had both sides scoring one goal each; while Croatia’s defender, Domagoj Vida scored after 10mins into the extra time, Fernandes pulled an equaliser in the 115th minute, forcing the match into a Penalty shoot out.
With Croatia’s advancement ahead of Russia, it has booked a spot in the Semi Final stage of the World Cup against England, which defeated Sweden earlier in the day.
