Malaika, the Nollywood film produced by actress Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, has grossed over 300 million Naira at the box office.
The actress confirmed this in an Instagram post on Friday, revealing that the movie is the ninth highest grossing Nigerian film of all time.
“Thank you, GOD, and thank you to everyone who has seen Malaika. It’s official: ‘Malaika’ now holds the esteemed title of the ninth highest-grossing Nigerian film of all time,” Abraham wrote.
The actress recently disclosed that she had panic attacks and was hospitalized several times due to the piracy of her movie. The police had arrested five suspects, including two women, over the alleged piracy of the movie.
Directed by Steve Olufemi Sodiya, “Malaika”—which hit the cinemas last December—tells the story of a frustrated and bitter woman who is desperately trying to conceive a child of her own. Battling intense anger issues, she embarks on a spiritual journey in search of guidance and self-discovery.
The 2 hours-long movie features Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi as the lead actress. Other popular faces in the movie include Odunlade Adekola, Muyiwa Ademola, Ibrahim Chatta, Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, Carter Efe, and Uzor Arukwe.
