President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Idris Olorunnimbe as the Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) board.

The appointment was announced on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to Onanuga, Olorunnimbe brings years of experience in innovative leadership and commitment to youth empowerment and education to the role.

As the Group CEO of The Temple Company, which he founded in 2016, Olorunnimbe has led initiatives across education and entertainment.

He previously served on the board of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), where he chaired the stakeholder and governance committees for various employment and entrepreneurship programs.

In addition to Olorunnimbe’s appointment, President Tinubu also named Rasaq Olajuwon from the South West as UBEC’s Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) while Tunde Ajibulu, from north-central, will serve as deputy executive secretary (services).

The appointments are expected to bring new energy and expertise to the UBEC board, which plays a critical role in shaping Nigeria’s basic education policy.

Olorunnimbe’s experience and passion for education and youth empowerment are seen as key assets in driving the commission’s mandate to improve access to quality basic education in Nigeria.
