A female soldier, Lance Corporal Nkiru, accidentally shot and killed a senior colleague while on duty to enforce the state government’s curfew.
The tension and anxiety in the area have increased following this unfortunate event.
The female soldier reportedly fired her weapon while dealing with an altercation with civilians at the Fire Service Roundabout, and a captain trying to intervene became the victim of the accidental shooting.
The victim was rushed to the federal medical center but was confirmed dead, and the suspect was arrested and taken away by another soldier.
Recall that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri imposed a curfew in the state following the breaking of the government warehouses and looting of several items by some hoodlums, including palliatives kept to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.
A security officer who witnessed the incident said,
“Some people stopped at the checkpoint and explained themselves as workers on essential duties, but the female soldier insisted they must turn back. A captain came forward to intervene. Unfortunately, she had already cocked her rifle, so she fired and killed him accidentally.”
