Anticipation is running high as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) prepares to unveil the results of the 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) today.

This was according to the Head of the Public Affairs unit, Moyosola Adesina, in a notice on Sunday.

This eagerly awaited release comes as a beacon of hope for candidates aspiring to secure admission into tertiary institutions.

In her words, some of the candidates who participated in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) had left out their mandatory SSCE results in their application forms, indicating that they were awaiting their outcomes.

The nationwide UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in May, has already set the wheels of the admission process in motion for numerous higher education institutions.

It was gathered that a significant total of 1,621,853 candidates from both government and private schools, spread across 20,851 institutions, registered for the SSCE, a comprehensive exam spanning seven weeks from May 8th to June 23rd.

Patrick Areghan, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria office, had previously announced in May that, following the customary timeline, the results of the candidates who undertook the examination would be made public 45 days after the last exam paper.

Mr. Areghan reported that the rigorous marking process, encompassing 76 subjects and 197 papers, was successfully concluded by August 1st.

He said that the marking was conducted across 85 venues, including one electronic marking center.

Impressively, many examiners wrapped up their evaluation well before the deadline, with some finishing two or three days ahead of schedule.
