The musical legacy of late Nigerian juju singer, St. Janet, appears set to live on through her daughter, Omowunmi, popularly known as Wumi.
Wumi recently stepped onto the stage to sing in honour of her late mother, marking a poignant moment as the family continues to mourn the veteran singer.
In a video circulating on social media, Wumi is seen performing before an audience, using music to pay tribute to the woman whose career helped establish her name in Nigeria’s juju music scene.
The performance has drawn attention because of its symbolism: with St. Janet now gone, her daughter is beginning to take up the musical baton.
A comment described the performance as Wumi’s first time singing on stage, making the moment even more significant as she honours her mother while potentially opening a new chapter in the family’s musical story.
St. Janet, who died in August 2026, was remembered as a prominent figure in Nigerian juju music. Her death triggered tributes from colleagues, fans and members of her family.
For Wumi, however, the loss has come with a deeper responsibility, preserving the sound and memory of a mother whose music became part of the lives of many Nigerians.
Whether Wumi will eventually pursue music professionally remains to be seen, but her emotional performance has already given St. Janet’s admirers another reason to believe that the singer’s voice may continue to resonate through the next generation.
