Nigerian singer, Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo has apologized to the South-East citizens over his anti-Igbo comments.

Blackbox Nigeria reported that the Ara crooner became a subject of discussion on Twitter after he said that as long as there is talk about Biafra in the South East, the desire for an Igbo president will remain a pipe dream.

Brymo also generated a bigger stir when he went on to say, “F**k The Ndi Igbo!! To Hell With It!!”.

This remark did not go down well with Nigerian citizens as they trolled the singer on Twitter and went on to launch a petition for his AFRIMMA nomination to be revoked with immediate effect.

Following the backlash, Brymo has publicly apologized during an Instagram Live session.

This apology came up after media personality, Daddy Freeze demanded the singer tendered an apology to the Igbos over his ‘hate speeches’ on social media against them.

Brymo explained that his remark was triggered by the decision of award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie accepting a traditional Igbo chieftaincy title but ignoring a national honour suggesting that it should not have been the case considering how the region is clamouring for the Presidency.

He also referred to his statement as taken out of context and was not directed to the entire tribe.

The singer said, “I didn’t insult the tribe (Igbos), I will not do that. I apologize to anyone who is saddened by such tweet. I was trying to weigh in on very important matters.”
