Residents of Bajulaiye/Fola Agoro Ward F in Shomolu Local Government Area now have a new representative following a councillorship by-election conducted by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

The election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of the councillor, Hon. Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan, who previously represented the ward.

LASIEC declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Kehinde Halimat Jolaosho, winner of the poll after she secured 2,546 votes. Her closest challenger, Ifeanyibech Anyamebech of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), garnered 157 votes, while the National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate polled 23 votes.

The commission said the election was conducted in line with electoral laws requiring vacant councillorship seats to be filled to ensure continued representation of residents.

LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), monitored the exercise and commended voters, election officials, political parties and security agencies for maintaining peace throughout the process.

With her victory, Jolaosho is expected to continue legislative and community representation duties for the ward.
