Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, a distinguished representative of Lagos East Senatorial District, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.

The announcement was made by the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, marking a key appointment in the 10th Senate.

Senator Abiru’s expertise in banking, finance, and his impressive administrative acumen have contributed to this significant appointment.

Having held the position of Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries during the 9th National Assembly, Senator Abiru brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role.

A former Chief Executive of a prominent bank, Senator Abiru enjoyed a distinguished career in the financial sector spanning over thirty years.

His rise through the ranks at First Bank of Nigeria led him to become an Executive Director.

A true testament to his prowess, he later assumed the role of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Bank Limited.

During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in the transformation of Skye Bank Plc, serving as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

It’s worth noting that this transformation took place under the backdrop of a Central Bank of Nigeria-induced takeover, aimed at averting the bank’s collapse and safeguarding the stability of Nigeria’s financial landscape.

Senator Abiru’s strategic leadership during this period showcased his ability to navigate challenging circumstances with determination and insight.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Abiru is expected to leverage his extensive financial background to provide oversight, guidance, and strategic direction to the country’s financial sector.
