Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, has been honoured with the Legislative Excellence Award for Financial Sector Advancement at the 2026 Nairametrics Capital Market Awards held in Lagos.
Abiru, who chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, received the award in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of Nigeria’s financial services sector through legislative initiatives and policy support.
Speaking after receiving the award, the senator thanked the organisers for the recognition, describing it as a reflection of the collective efforts of stakeholders committed to strengthening Nigeria’s financial and capital market ecosystem.
The former banker reaffirmed his commitment to promoting policies and legislation aimed at deepening the capital market, boosting investor confidence, and driving sustainable economic growth.
According to him, collaboration among policymakers, regulators, market operators and investors remains essential to building a globally competitive economy capable of attracting investments and creating opportunities for citizens.
Abiru also commended stakeholders in the financial services industry for their contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s capital market, stressing that a vibrant and resilient capital market is crucial to the country’s economic transformation and long-term prosperity.
